Greg's Background
Greg's Background

I come from a huge background in writing and performing for children. My 1st musical was written when I was 14 and I went on to write three others while in high school that were performed for children. When I moved to New York, I worked for years with a children's theatre company and got my equity card (the actor's union) touring in a children's show that brought books to life. I also spent two summers touring the country as a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle which was an absolute blast! Though not a father, children are near and dear to my heart which I'm sure comes from the 25+ years my own mother spent in early childhood education. I think it is important that children get an early exposure to the arts through books, stage shows, and movies geared towards them.

I entered a children's book based on my godson with autism in the MeeGenius 2011 author challenge to find the next children's book author. Chicken Boy: The Amazing Adventures of a Super Hero with Autism It recieved the most votes (over 2,000) in round one of 400 submitted stories. It came in first in voting in the finals round as well out of 13 books that were chosen to be fully illustrated. A winner wil be named on March 7, 2012. Autism should not be feared. And this book was created by his older sister and I for children to see what it is like for those living with autism: told through that child's eyes. What People are Saying About Chicken Boy!!! "I'm completely behind Chicken Boy and believe it would be a great door opener to so many people who have misunderstood Autism." - Texas "Important that "normal" kids understand how autistic children "see" every day life." - New Jersey "Thank you for putting autism in the perspective that everyone can understand. Understanding leads to acceptance!" "I think this book is not only enlightening for children but for many adults as well." - New York "I work with, and advocate for, autistic children and their families. I wish I could hand this book to each new family as they tell me their son or daughter has just been diagnosed with Autism." - California "Every teacher should be aware of this book & should read it in every class at every grade level. There are a lot of children now being mainstreamed in to regular classes & this would bring so much awareness." - New Jersey "I work with autistic children and this story portrayed a deeper understanding of the special mind of a child with autism." - Illinois "What a sweet touching yet true and funny way of appreciating and loving a child for who he is." - New York
